On board with me yesterday were Andre, Marco, Carmine and Bob. We started our search for snook and redfish near the Alafia river, using threadfins for bait. We were well north of the Alafia when we found a concentration of snook, and the guys entertained themselves for a few hours with fast paced snook action. Soon after the snook bite started, we were swarmed by 2-3 foot blacktip and bonnethead sharks. These little guys seemed to cut off everyone but Marco, who had the knack for shark catching (he was referred to as Sharkman before the day was over). They ended the day boating 20+ snook, and 10+ sharks. Those numbers would have doubled, but the snook seemed practiced at parting the leader that day.

And fish they did. We started out in Hillsborough Bay. At the first spot, Vinnie landed a nice 30″ snook along with several smaller ones. Bill Kept up with Vinnie, numbers wise, and pulled in the only table fare with a nice mangrove snapper. The next few stops produced some jacks, blacktip and bonnethead sharks, and some mackrel cut offs. The last hole we tried was the best of the day. They got two 31″ snook, along with a lot of smaller ones. Also boated were redfish, and the ever present whiskered trout

I had the management for one of the local Bonefish Grills out today for tarpon fishing at the Skyway.
We got out for the last of the incoming tide, where we saw many fish roll, but no takers on our baits. The outgoing tide began to fall around 2:00, so we repositioned for a short stay before heading in.We got one fish to bite, and DJ made incredibly short work of him. He had the 100 lb plus fish to the boat in under 15 minutes….not bad for his first tarpon!
